riding the weather rolling coaster

Cape Cod weather tends to be slightly more temperate than “the other side of the bridge”. Summer is a few degrees cooler, and winter a few degrees warmer. Last winter we lucked out and got almost no snow. This winter we’ve had several accumulating snowfalls, with 2 topping 6 inches. We’ve also had some unseasonably warm weather. This week, it looks like we’ll be able to experience both.

That’s right – a high today of 52 degrees, with nearly 6 inches of snow on Thursday. Is it any wonder I yearn for Baja during the winter?

audible sigh

There’s a reason why we try to escape to Todos Santos for one week every January or February. While Cape Cod is generally more temperate than “the other side of the bridge”, it doesn’t escape the wrath of winter. After 5 or 6 inches of wet, heavy snow yesterday, here’s what the next 10 days look like. We’ve learned that a lot can change during the course of a week, but “there will be weather”.

It’s impossible not to draw a contrast with the weather in Todos Santos and El Pescadero.

Granted, there are overnight lows in the 50s, but that’s what hoodies are for – not for being one of the many layers between you and the brutal cold.

Despite my complaining, I believe we did the right thing by not taking our chances traveling to a country that is easily overwhelmed by a health crisis. We’ve erred on the side of caution for nearly a year now, and it’s likely to be a few months more at the very least. So I’ll shake my fist at the snow and wait on a return to normalcy – whatever that is.
